No sound output?

I cannot get Hydrogen to reliably have sound output.  I am using:

  • Linux Mint 17.1
  • ALSA
  • the latest Hydrogen from the PPA (RC2)

Hydrogen is set to use ALSA at hardware address 0.

cat /proc/asound/cards tells me:

 0 [PCH            ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0xd0810000 irq 107

The vast majority of the time, Hydrogen simply does not appear in the list of applications sending sound to ALSA, even when it is actively looping a click track or basic pattern.  I have gotten sound output exactly one time with these settings, then restarted Hydrogen and came back to no sound output.   I have had output 0 times with auto for the sound driver selection.

I currently have a terminal window, this browser window and Hydrogen open so there should be no conficts with anything else using sound, yet ALSA and Hydrogen do not seem to know that each other exist.

wat do?

I get  :           jan@kxstudio:~$ cat /proc/asound/cards
                        0 [Intel          ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xfc420000 irq 48
                       1 [Loopback       ]: Loopback - Loopback
                                                 Loopback 1
And it just work, do look at alsa mixer for volume .

P.S.Hydrogen is 0.9.6  the rc2 is old.

I'm experiencing the same problem. Any luck?

I had the same problem as mentioned above.

Every other applilcation could send sound to the audio device except hydrogen.

Found  - Hydrogen --> Tools --> Preferences --> Audio System --> Audio System : HW:0

Changed the Audio system to HW:1 and the sound came to life.

Guys, I'm really getting tired of recording on Linux. A damn problem after the other.

I had Ubuntu 12.04 and I used Hydrogen to create some drum tracks without problems. Then I had to upgrade to Ubuntu Studio and I used Hydrogen as well. Then I went back to usual Ubuntu but 16.04 LTS 64 bit.

Since then, I cannot hear any **** out of Hydrogen. When I select Jack in the audio system window, all the checkboxes are disabled and I cannot indicate the Fast Track in the audio device. I tried to change the audio system in ALSA and indicated HW:1 that's my sound card but without any results.
If I start Hydrogen with the sound card off, I hear the sound from the computer speaker whichever audio system I chose.
If I turn the sound card on and I chose any audio system I keep hearing the sound from the computer speaker.
Only if I chose ALSA audio system, the HW:1 appear in the window and I don't hear anything anymore.

I have jackd installed on the computer and Ardour works without problems. I don't have any clue about this new problem in Hydrogen.

Any help would be more than appreciated.
Thank you

Just start jackd (with your desired settings) *before* you start Hydrogen. Hydrogen will then connect to this jack server instead of starting an own jack server.

Hi Mauser, jackd was already on but Hydrogen wasn't working. Though, yesterday I installed qjackctl, started Hydrogen and it worked. I'll never be able to understand these misteries.

But I noticed another problem: it doesn't save any session. I don't know why. I created a short drum track for trying and tried to save it, but there's wasn't any chance to do it. I don't know why.
I downloaded Hydrogen from the software center, I don't even know if it's the last version.

What happens if you save the project? Do you get an error message? Have you made sure that you are allowed to write to that directory?

Yes, of course. It's the same folder I saved the previous projects made when I had Hydrogen installed.

When I save the project it appears the window saying "failed project saving" or sort of.
